Frequent Voiding

Frequent voiding is usually caused by one of two things:

  1. Bladder Irritation
  2. Increased Fluid Consumption
Bladder Irritation
Bladder irritation can be caused by bladder infection. As women get older they don't always have all of the usual symptoms of a bladder infection such as burning with peeing and pain. It is worthwhile having your doctor test your urine for infection. If you have an infection, treating it with antibiotics will often get rid of the symptoms of "frequency" and "urgency".

Many beverages will cause bladder irritation. Eliminating caffeine from your diet often helps very much. For other advice about changes in your diet see 'Lifestyle Guidelines'.

Increased Fluid Consumption
Your body works to keep just the right amount of fluid in your blood. If you drink extra fluid your body will produce more urine to get rid of the extra fluid. If your bladder is sensitive you will tend to empty your bladder more often. All this means that the more you drink, the more you will have to go to the bathroom to empty your bladder.
