The following factors are associated with urinary incontinence:

  • smoking
  • certain medications (e.g. diuretics)
  • constipation/fecal impaction
  • physical conditions affecting mobility and dexterity (e.g., MS, arthritis)
  • obesity
  • caffeine and fluid intakes
  • high impact physical activities
  • occupations which involve heavy lifting and straining
  • certain medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, stroke)
